A trafficker arrested for trading in ostriches.

A trafficker was arrested with several accomplices during his attempt to sell 2 young ostriches by Natural Resource Conservation Network Team and Lira Central Police officers with assistance of EAGLE Uganda. They tried to get 3,500 USD for the two ostriches.
n Uganda ostrich is majorly found in the Karamoja region, and is totally protected species. It is often poached for its feathers, meat, skin, but also to be kept as a pet.
Unfortunately during the transport to Kampala the male succumbed to death, but the female survived and was handled to UWA for rehabilitation. She will be released to the wild when she is able to survive by herself.
The trafficker will be prosecuted at court on Monday June 15.
