Former CITES authority of Guinea in prison
Guinea, 20 Aug 2015Last week the former wildlife head and the CITES authority of Guinea - Ansoumane Doumbouya – has been arrested by the Interpol NCB, with the assistance of GALF – EAGLE, following an investigation against a wildlife ring involved in large scale wildlife trafficking and corruption.
2 traffickers arrested, over hundred skins seized
Benin, 29 Jul 20152 traffickers arrested with chameleons, genets skins, 2 python skins and more than 50 antelopes skins. The house search, carried on the next day, brought even more of the contraband. The operation was carried on by police and officers of eaux-et-forêt and with support of the AALF-Benin team, when the traffickers were trying to sell the contraband. They remain arrested and will be prosecuted according to the Benin law.
Drunken police officer arrested with leopard skin
Congo, 24 Jul 2015PALF activists and their sniffer dogs get another criminal! A trafficker arrested in Congo with leopard skin and illegally held gun. When Cama and Rick, the dogs, entered a bus they immediately found the suitcase of the drunk police officer trafficking the leopard skin. He threatened the activists, and tried to scare them by calling a colonel, just before vomiting and getting arrested. His “friend” colonel refused to support him, and the police did not hesitate to arrest him immediately.

Benin, 23 Jul 20153 wildlife traffickers were arrested in Benin last week with 4 elephant feet, 2 leopard skins and scales of 2 pangolins.
A trafficker arrested with leopard skins
Gabon, 18 Jul 2015A trafficker was arrested red handed in Gabon with 3 leopard skins, 7 teeth and one head in an operation by forces of order (B2) and Eaux et Forêts with support of our AALF team. He arrived to Mouila in the morning with his contraband hidden in a bag of rice. This case is yet another example to confirm the extent of illegal trafficking of wildlife organized in the province of Ngounié.

Gabon, 17 Jul 2015Low deterrent sentences deal with crimes against surround in Gabon – coverage at Kanal7, a Gabonese Channel but broadcast also on Canalsat, available in all Africa. In Gabon, killing an elephant, ivory or leopard skins trafficking, as well as any other wildlife crime, leads only to low sentences. Togo, 9 Jul 2015An ivory trafficker arrested with 2 elephant tusks during an operation, carried out by the TALFF team and OCTRIB. The trafficker is kept behind bars, waiting for the trial. The punishment for illegal trade of protected wildlife species is up to 2 years imprisonment and 8,300 USD fine according to the law.
July starts with a bang!
Cameroon, 1 Jul 2015LAGA team works with authorities and got an arrest of two ape traffickers with 4 chimp skulls! Serge, Julius and Nancy continue the fight till they get to jail. One of the traffickers is the Head of an ecotourism company using this to trade in great apes. In June the EAGLE Network brought about the arrest of 36 wildlife traffickers!
9 traffickers of pangolin scales arrested at once
Uganda, 26 Jun 2015Excellent result brought an operation of EAGLE Uganda, where 9 traffickers were arrested during an attempt to sell pangolin scales. They were collecting the scales from smaller dealers and then came to one place to sell them and hoping to get their pay. They remain in prison instead. 50 kg of pangolin scales were seized, which presents about 100 animals killed.
A trafficker, 48 years old woman, arrested
Uganda, 25 Jun 2015A trafficker arrested with horns of several antelope species. The 48 year old women is facing maximum of 3 month imprisonment, as hunting, possessing or trading in these species is illegal in Uganda.
Air force soldier arrested 10 kg of ivory
Gabon, 19 Jun 2015Two ivory traffickers, Gabonese nationality, were arrested on June 19 during a swift operation in possession of4 ivory tusks of estimated weight a little over 10 kg. Yet another arrest, which demonstrates that the ivory trade continues to flourish despite all the strategies implemented and Libreville continues to be one of the hubs.
